Presence of Death
MA Project2021 — 2022
Jie Xu researched funeral culture at crematoriums and cemeteries and was fascinated to the new life offered by white bones and white chrysanthemums. Her current detailed porcelain works are themed and influenced by the motifs associated with death in her cultural background. She infuses this idea of death and rebirth into her ceramic creations, utilizing them as a language to weave unique stories into the objects, and she produces a range of artworks to comfort those who are struggling to cope with the loss of a loved one or to mourn the deceased.
